The family park Senftenberger See, with its own sandy beach and located in the middle of a pine forest, is ideal for a relaxing holiday close to nature. Families in particular will find plenty of offers here. In addition to outdoor playgrounds and a miniature golf course, there is also an indoor playground for bad weather. A harbor scenery was designed here. The main eye-catcher is a large play ship with a lighthouse. A staircase leads to the bow of the ship. The different platform heights of the upper deck and the built-in play walls provide plenty of scope. Sensory games on the walls increase the length of stay. The floor is partially perforated with horizontal nets through which the game below can be observed. They also increase attention when walking over them. Below deck there is a sensory avenue of hanging ribbons and ropes that appeal to the senses. From the stern, you can go over a pier to the lighthouse and back down to ground via a tunnel slide or stairs. The bathhouse offers a ball pit for romping around or relaxing. In the middle of the room there is a large mobile construction site with foam blocks, next to it there is a parking lot for bobby cars, which race over the wave bridge and through the construction site. A harbor pub for role-playing games, a hotel as a quiet area and a small hands-on theater are also planned.

The playground “’t Kwekkeltje” in Rosmalen in the Netherlands has been run by a private foundation since 1993. It offers Approx. 300 children 5,000 m2 of space for creative play experiences. Building sandcastles, creating watercourses, playing your way through a climbing forest to a super-fast slide, of course lots of swings, a cable car and an enchanted fairytale forest are some of the many features here for children up to 12 years of age. Many games/facilities can also be used by visitors with disabilities. The newest attraction in “’t Kwekkeltje” is a pirate island. A stranded pirate shipwreck was installed to the right and left of a climbing cave. There is a rope connecting the old masthead to the climbing area. The great view from the top of the masthead doesn’t fail to impress, as other visitors seem to be making their way to the island via bridges and ropes across the water. The islanders, all former pirates, are enthroned on the posts of the shipwreck or can be twisted into different characters in a sensory game. A magical attraction in the cave is a treasure chest. The children keep hiding it under a mountain of sand just to dig it up again.

The small town of Bergen in the Celle district was a military base until 2014. With the withdrawal of British forces, a comprehensive conversion process began. In the course of structural demolition measures, a contemporary park with an arboretum, shrub areas and a central playground was created and represents the new center of the residential district. The heart of the playground is an approximately 5.8 meter tall lighthouse on an about 1.8 meter high hill. The top platform can be reached via various climbing elements. From here, you have a wonderful view of the new «green center» of the quarter. A tunnel slide leads back to a spacious sand area. A big part of it is equipped with sand for sand and water games. The other area contains play equipment for seesawing, swinging, climbing and balancing. About a quarter of the sandy area is framed by a 20 meter long barrier-free footbridge. Playhouses in the shape of buoys were placed on the footbridge and on another platform and equipped with role-play games. Two dolphin towers, connected with a rope and a climbing-balancing-unit to combine the elements into a play and movement structure.

The pier and the promenade in Grossenbrode were renovated and expanded in keeping with the motto “MeerZeit” (“more Time”). According to a design by the Siller office in Kiel, a spacious play area was modeled on a “treasure island” in the first construction phase. As on a treasure map, there are different locations on hills and in valleys. The hills are secured with a non-slip EPDM surface, the valleys are filled with fine Baltic Sea sand. High palm trees give the playground a South Sea flair. A five meters high pirate hideout is perched on a 1.2 meters high hill. Experienced climbers can make it to the 3.5 meters high platform. From there you have a great view of the playground, the promenade and the Baltic Sea. A long tunnel slide takes you back to the bottom of the hill. A stone’s throw away you will find the next hill that keeps new adventures. Through a labyrinth of climbing and balancing elements, the children reach the next hill over a 17 meters long bridge. Two oversized treasure chests determine the hill panorama. A large area of sand extends in front of the hills. There is a multi-play combination for small children consisting of boxes and bridges. The bars can be used as a chill out area. Find a hammock between two palm trees in the toddler area. Larger children can swing high up into the air on multiple swings in the next area. A four meters long crocodile works as a border between these two areas.

After all the best way to convince yourself of the quality of our work is to experience it live and visit this very special playground.

At the entrance to the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula is Dierhagen, a family-friendly Baltic Sea resort nestled between the Baltic Sea and Saaler Bodden.

Fine sandy beaches, coastal forests, dune landscapes, protected moors, wide meadows and reed banks shape the image of the spacious Baltic Sea resort. In the middle of one of these coastal forests, SIK-Holz® has built a generation playground in cooperation with the landscape architecture officethe planning office Evert from Lietzow.

The sensitive thinning of the wood allowed age-appropriate zoning of the individual play areas. The play equipment represents the Baltic Sea Bodden area in a maritime color concept. The entrance marks a gate occupied by seagulls. Immediately behind the gate there is a barrier-free play area that can be accessed via a bound path surface. Fitness equipments for all age groups were positioned parallel on the way to the beach. And in the small clearings in the grove, the gaze falls on a large lighthouse, a small cutter, a fisherman’s house, a trap-climbing-unit, a rotating fish barrel or on various seesaws and swings. The devices offer a lot of variety in movement and role-playing games. In between there is always a place to relax, watch or play a board game. The game is played with pine apples, which you only need to pick up from the floor.

«A pier is not a relic from the imperial era, it is the first place I go on vacation. Here I can feel the elements, here the recovery begins … » The Prime Minister of Schleswig Holstein, Torsten Albich, was enthusiastic about the opening of the new pier in Niendorf / Timmendorfer Strand. «You have to fly over this bridge to see how beautiful it is,» continued Albich.

Yes, it is something special, the pier in Niendorf. From the air, the 185 m long bridge looks like a big fish. And it is the first pier with a playground. The landscape architect Rainer Kahns came up with a large wooden snail that got caught in a fish trap. The fish trap leads the children above but also below the pier. So you balance on a small section directly above the water. The safety net underneath will certainly be heavily besieged on hot days. A slide leads from the highest point of the fish trap back to the bridge. The approx. 4 m high wooden shell also leads to the slide entrance. This creates many play paths and cycles. The ensemble is framed by a fisherman who probably had a large seal on his fishing rod. Now the bait is gone and with it the fishing line.

In four weeks of work on site, our carpentry artists under the direction of Marcus Röttig set up this unique ensemble. It was a special project for them too. No SIK-Holz® playground has ever been built so close to the elements of wind and water.

A large 16 m long Viking ship is located near the river Bille in the Hamburg district Bergedorf. It was welcomed at its inauguration with sailor and pirate songs of children of the nearby elementary school. The district manager Arne Dornquast also praised the new playground with the words: «I would have wished for such a comfortable playground as a little boy».

The ship offers many climbing, balancing and hiding opportunities outside and inside, designed for older children and combined with role-playing games. Even from afar you can hear their commands, which conclude a turbulent seafaring. Two approximately 6 m long rope bridges connect the ship with a slide tower. The location of the tower on a hill extends the slide and increases its appeal. Behind the hill is a small settlement with the typical dragon’s heads, the play combination for small children, who should protect the Vikings from their enemies far from home. Even as a small whiptail the dragon can be found in the small settlement. Role and sand playing, but also slides and climbing between dried fishes are offered here. Seating places for adults around the house also serves as a baking area for the children.

In the Playmobil® FunPark the adventure of seafaring is linked with both interactive technology and an inclusive quality of stay in a very innovative way which thus provides a type of adventure which possibly only exists in films.

True, the idea to build a pirate playground is neither fanciful nor innovative. Take a sailing ship, a palm tree, a steering wheel, a crocodile, a nautical chart and arrange the whole of it in an appropriate landscape space. Children will know immediately what to do. Pirates are the most popular and absolute heroes for children. Even if the playing children don’t have a ship, they will as well board a harvester or a simple climbing scaffold.

The history of the Hanseatic League, the adventures of Francis Drake, Klaus Störtebecker or the discovery of the New World are terrific adventures and always exciting for kids. So what could make more sense than setting up an adventure area with a sailing ship and pirates in the midst of a theme park? However, a leisure park needs much more than this. Its attractions must be sensational and should vary significantly from all other similar offerings. To design a boat of approximately 15 metres height a lot of phantasy and creativity was required from those who had to design and build this area. And it is exactly at this point where the adventurous journey started.

The company Adler & Olesch GmbH, a landscape architect’s office from Nuremberg, was responsible for the project planning of the new play area. So, the landscape architects designed a concept which focused on themes such as a pirate sea, a pirate lagoon, a pirate island. In addition they were responsible for the landscaping as such and the water management. Regarding the concrete design a two-step tendering procedure was implemented. Finally, it was the company SIK-Holz® which was awarded the contract. Together with a team of designers, wood technicians and constructors, this company prepared an impressing presentation of a concept which connects all areas in a specifically playful way, including the important aspect of barrier-free playing as well as a continuous and appropriate suspense level between adventure and safety.

Already well visible from a distance, the 15-metre-high full rigged yard masts invite to visiting this exciting destination. When approaching the pirate bay from a more elevated location, one will find surprise after surprise. On an area of approximately 5,300 m² one is faced with a dramatic sea battle. The scenery has the appearance of a genuine adventure world in the midst of the South Seas. Two opposing ships facing each other, a proud Spanish Galleon and a wreck with burst masts and ripped sails are forming the dramatic scene.

In the sand area of the pirate lagoon children are looking for treasures of the former island residents. Three big pieces of wreckage (a ship’s bow, its stern and a pirate hide-out) are equipment elements for the role-playing game, physical activity and, at the same time, for sun protection. The masts and other wreckage pieces were used to build a shack for the children stranded here. To get on board the pirate ship, they have to overcome the ship’s side and rail by using ropes, crossing wobbling bridges and climbing up the rungs.

To get onto the Island of the Damned they have to cross the jungle bridges. It is here where the small pirates fight with water cannons against the besieging players who are getting closer on rafts. It is on the shores where both children and adults can capture rafts to get to the ships.

Of course, also people with specific needs have been taken into account. Barrier-free accessibility and inclusion are of utmost importance when designing playgrounds. Everybody should be able to enjoy playing there. However, any wheelchair driver will need a bit of courage to pull him or herself onto the ferry up to the ship wreck. To cater for them a special guidance system and an inoffensive locking technology have been developed.

The big pirate ship was built three metres below the water level. To this end, a waterproof reinforced concrete basement was cast which at the same time bears the total weight of the ship. Into the resulting 2-metre-deep bilge, the company SIK-Holz® designed an authentic staging of black powder barrels, cannonballs, rope ends as well as a brig with exciting effects. Eight portholes have been installed on the sides through which the visitors can observe and enjoy the tropical underwater world. Interactive sound generators create sounds such as the sound of the sea, the commands shouted to the sailors, the creaking of the ship’s side, the rattling of the anchor chain or the distant noise of board gun bullets hitting. At the same time, dim light projections on the walls provide the right mood.

When designing the authentic play elements, it was of utmost importance to maintain the natural character of the wood. Active game offerings are provided in form of climbing, balancing, turning and swinging games which can be played on almost all devices. The pirate shack, the ships and ample seating options on ship boxes, rum barrels and herring barrels on different play levels provide the young visitors with both protected areas and places to get in contact or encourage their senses. Telescopes help to discover the distant areas of the Playmobil® FunPark. In addition, it is very thrilling to ascent the seven-metre-high crow’s nests and to cross the chain bridge to get from one mast to another.

The average duration of stay is relatively long. Both children and adults can spend the whole day long in the park without getting bored. There is always something new to discover. The exciting experiences the visitors can gain during their stay in the park are indescribable. All children coming here will win wonderful experiences while playing with each other in a romantic child-friendly environment.

Even though the Fläming is not exactly one of the most water-rich areas in Germany, it does not prevent its inhabitants, especially the youngest among them, from dreaming of the large, wide sea and the adventures associated with it. This dream came true last month for the children of Achim von Arnim Primary School in Werbig. The school is part of a newly built Campus of the Generations, a lighthouse project in the sparsely populated areas of Brandenburg. Here, the «Kunterbunte Pusteblume» association bundles all its strengths to bring something forward – with success!

After several applications to the Playmobil Foundation for the purchase of a play ship for the Campus of the generations, perseverance was rewarded. The foundation promised to sponsor a large mobile play ship including all assembly and landscaping work. But now the ambition of the association was awakened. The impressive play ship with a length of 12.5 m, a width of 8.8 m and a mast height of 6.65 m was to become the centre of a pirate stronghold. Further funds were acquired until the treasure chest was full and not only the pirate ship, but also an entire pirate island with a pirate hideaway and an extensive climbing and balancing landscape under palm trees could be ordered at the SIK-Holz® shipyard.

On the 13th of October the time had come. With pirate dances and a confetti-coloured christening of the ship was christened «Fortuna». Headmistress Petra Schrank gave a cheerful speech of thanks to all big and small pirates and all sponsors and supporters.
