A boy who didn’t want to grow up. A captain whose purpose in life is to hunt him down. A crocodile hungry for the captain with a ticking clock inside his belly. A little fairy who always is there to help. These are adventurous, funny and magical elements of one of the most famous children’s and youth stories worldwide. Who has not dreamed of »Neverland«, where children can fly and the world enchants you.

On the playground at Rood Klooster near Brussels it is precisely these stories that children can bring to life themselves. The former Augustinian abbey is now a public park on the edge of the Zoniёn wood. This is where the Brussels residents like to end up when they are looking for relaxation. The playgrounds at Rood Klooster form the imaginary and adventurous world of Peter Pan. Children of all ages can move through different playstructures to reenact the stories. The 7 m high play combination, for example, offers challenges for the older ones. Climbing, sliding, marveling, playing, everything is possible here. Fun and action can be enjoyed on the Swings and a cable car. Speed and a feeling of weightlessness make the butterflies dance in your stomach. Another highlight of the playground is the pirate ship. Many climbing and balancing circuits make it to a real treasure trove of movement. The pirates should be in good shape to steer their ship into new adventures. The play with elements like water and sand is not neglected either. In the »Indian Village« and the »Mermaid Lagoon«, smaller children can let off steam and come alive in role play. Just don’t get too deep into the game, because the crocodiles are already waiting on every corner.

The Rood Klooster is waiting for new adventurers and has many surprises in store. So »never say goodbye because goodbye means going away and going away means forgetting.«.

Forest spirits are known for their shyness and often appear as guardians of nature. They hide in forests between trees and bushes and quietly watch the strangers roaming around. However, they are in plain sight in Halle, Südpark. The forest spirits do not watch over and protect a forest in this case, but a playground paradise.

They invite children to find friends, laugh and explore. Each »ghost« tower exudes an individual character and easily blends into the overall playground concept. You can tell their different moods right away and identify with them immediately. The cheerful color scheme also helps the playground to blend into the landscape, in the same way forest spirits fit into their natural environment. With color gradients going from green to blue, the posts appear to have the same color as the background, so that parts of the playground literally disappear into the surrounding nature. This makes it seem as if the red, white and blue colored ghosts are floating above the ground. They become the main character of this playgound paradise and will definitely catch your eye.

At the new playground, color is not the only thing that takes you into the world of forest spirits. The posts formed by nature imitate the structure of a natural forest. The dynamically rising height profile was inspired by the natural forest, which announces itself in the beginning with delicate bushes that steadily increase in size until tall trees characterize the landscape. The children can dive into the kindom of the forest spirits made of robinia wood and forget time for a little while. They can jump from one ghost to another with the help of wobbly »branches« and freely swinging hanging elements like little squirrels and experience the greatest adventures until they say goodbye.

We look forward to your visit at the Südpark in Halle.

SIK-Holzgestaltungs GmbH thanks everyone involved for the good collaboration.

Who does not know them? Lukas, Jim Knopf and their trusty locomotive »Emma«. The adventures of Jim Knopf can now be re-enacted by children of all ages on the new playground in the »Filmpark Babelsberg«.

The two sculptures of Lukas and Jim Knopf are standing at the entrance area of the playground to greet the children. The entrance features the original film set of the train station and movie locomotive »Emma«. Since the »Filmpark Babelsberg« is mainly visited by families, the playground with its diverse attractions appeals to a wide audience. Both the younger and older children will have fun, excitement and adventure here.

Like in the story, our journey begins on the island of »Lummerland«. It is the hometown of Jim and Lukas. This peaceful place, together with its residents Ms. Waas, Mr. Ärmel and the King, was playfully themed for the smaller children. Here they can train their motor skills on the climbable miniature version of »Lummerland«. Since an island is surrounded by water, a water play area should of course not be missing. The children can guide the wet element, dam it, and mix it with the sand to create creative structures. Ms. Waas’s small grocery store encourages creative role play and offers protection and a place of retreat. But if you want to train your balance, strength and dexterity, you can climb over a low balancing course directly to the king’s castle. He is already waiting very excitedly and receives everyone who has reached his castle. At the small train station, which is equipped with a slide, Emma’s little sister is waiting to start for new adventures. That all will be fun that will keep the children busy for a long time.

The toddler area leads to the playareas for the older children. This is where the main characters’ adventures come true. With the development of the existing hillside area, the »Tausend Wunder Wald« and the »Rot-Weiß-Gestreiftes Gebirge« are thematically taken up. Courageous adventurers can climb the slide plateau over stairs, bridges and balancing elements and experience a wild ride down one of the three slides. In the lower area, the climbing forest, which represents the desert realm of the »Scheinriese«, offers children the opportunity to shimmy, climb and balance at a height of up to three meters according to their mood.

Of course, the dragons shouldn’t be missing either. The little half-dragon Nepumuk invites you to make wild turns with him. If you feel like even more action, you can climb »Mrs. Mahlzahn’s« wobbly volcano from the outside using climbing holds. At the top oft he volcano you can see almost the entire playground and feel really big. Inside the volcano there are seating and climbing nets, which form a social meeting point and also a place of retreat.

But what else can you hear from afar? Watch out, the pirates are coming! The crew of the »Wilde 13« is still looking for newcomers. The ship with the pirate captain serves as an oasis of sand play and also encourages the children to role-play with one another.

Romping around, experiencing adventure and slipping into other roles is like living 1000 lives. The children can exercise, have fun and exhaust themselves here until they are exhausted. This makes it all the better to sleep in the evening and dream of your next visit to the »Filmpark Babelsberg«.

The Charlottenburg district in Berlin is characterized by a dense development with small courtyards and squares. One of these places is the Pipi Longstocking playground at the Gierkezeile. The approximately 30 x 40 m square is a small green oasis for children and adults.

The playground was laid out in its current structure as early as 2005. After about 15 years, renovation was necessary. The fact that the structure and equipment should be largely preserved speaks for the good social integration of the playground in the living environment.

The central play house «Villa Motley» offers a lot of possibilities for role playing on a surface of 13 x 8 m. The internal balancing circle is not only about «tables and benches» but also about «bed and stove». A vertical net tunnel can also be used to climb a play tower, which is also positioned inside, from which one has a good overview of the playground. The playhouse is partially wheelchair accessible. On the terrace, «Pippi» welcomes visitors, invites them for a coffee or encourages them to muddy with sand and water. Right next to the villa is her horse «Little Uncle» and her monkey «Mr. Nielson» is watching who has disappeared back into the barrel. The range of swing elements has been expanded for all age groups. All in all, the renovation has made the playground more inclusive and colorful.

The playground on Akazienstraße in Dortmund was advertised as part of a competition under the theme ‹Spooky›. An exciting topic that stimulates the imagination, but can also offer fear potential. SIK-Holz® consultant Jens Schmieding-Borgsen has managed to find a motif that children are familiar – the ghost train. The spook begins in an old castle ruin, as an integratively designed sand play area with many offers for experimenting, as well as role and sense games. Right next to the castle tower there is a ghost train car ready for departure. Following the rails ‹climbing›, it goes through an ‹eerie forest›. It dominates the playground and is immediately a tangent that connects the singly play areas. The post heights range between 3 and 6 m. A climbing balancing course with large spider nets, rope ladders, hanging ropes and balancing elements spans between the posts. There are many paths that lead to the 2.5 m high slide. Spiders, bats and a hissing cat accompany passengers on the ghost train. It continues past a ghost bedroom to a ‹flying carpet›, an integrative range of swings for many children in a confined space. The final stop of the ghost train invites to a ‹haunted break› in two stabled ghost wagons. After a short break it is time to get back to the ghost train again – only backwards.

The Parc d’Olhain is located in the north of France, approximately an hour’s drive from Calais in a woodland of about 450 hectares. The park itself covers about 200 hectares and offers outdoor activities and recreation in untouched nature. Whether golf, tennis, archery, hiking or mountain biking, everyone will find the right sports activity. In case of bad weather the multi-sports hall can be used. In addition, an adventure path between the trees and an open air swimming pool offer fun and adventure. On average, there are approximately 300,000 visitors to the park per year.

For these visitors, SIK-Holz® built an «enchanted village» (based on a design from Kompan France). The playground covers an area of about 20.0 × 16.0 m and seems to have sprung from a fairy tale book. On winding paths, the children discover a world that lets their imagination run wild. Running, climbing and sliding or hiding and observing are just a few activities that children are encouraged to explore here. Various sound and sensory games which invite to take a short rest and also provide children with physical limitations with an extensive field of activity have been integrated into these play cycles. For the adults there are hammocks around the «enchanted village» for resting and watching.

The places where Siegfried the Dragon slayer accomplished his heroics in the legend of the Nibelungs can be played by children on a playground installed at the Richard-Wagner-Straße in Berlin now. At the designing of their playgrounds, the district authority of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf is setting great value upon an individual and thematic design for these places. In addition to a variety of play incentives, knowledge and values shall be touched in a playful context.

All play- climbing- and sand play units are matched to Worms, Xanten and Iceland the main places of this legend. They respectively can be recognized by their coats of arms. The house facades of the play unit «Worms» have embedded woodcuts which are telling the tale of Siegfried the Dragon slayer in pictures.

The two seated swing has got an oversized beam which is designed as a spear. This spear points in to the direction of the legendary forest where Siegfried slayed the dragon and acquired the treasure of the Nibelungs as a reward. The trees are connected with different balancing- and support ropes, monkey ropes- and rope traverses. The treasure of the Nibelungs is represented by colored acrylic glass windows and so the sand below shines colorful.

To support inclusive play the sand play unit can be reached with a wheelchair from the main path. An orientation system gives partially blind and blind children orientation guide and leads to the single play equipment’s.
