A cheerful jay brings moments of joy
Sometimes, it’s the little moments of joy that mean the most. Since April this year, the Nachsorgeklinik am Straussee in Strausberg has offered seriously ill children and young people, along with their families, a new place to regain strength together. We are delighted to contribute to this special environment with individually designed play elements made from robinia wood. Alongside medical care and therapeutic support, physical activity, shared experiences and carefree moments outdoors are equally important. And that’s exactly what we hope to encourage with our playground equipment.
The design concept was developed by Mr Winkelmann of WYLD Landscape Architects and draws inspiration from the surrounding woodland. At its heart is the Eurasian jay, a bird that plays an important role in natural forest regeneration by spreading acorns. This nature-inspired theme has been transformed into a unique and imaginative play world.
With its friendly face, aviator cap, bright blue scarf and distinctive beak, the approximately four-metre-tall jay is a real eye-catcher. The lovingly designed bird-shaped play structure features two levels with a variety of climbing routes and rope net access, encouraging movement and coordination. A slide offers a fun way back down. Right next to it, an acorn-shaped playhouse invites children to enjoy imaginative role play, while another acorn provides opportunities for climbing, sitting and relaxing. The result is a versatile play world within a limited space, combining physical activity, imagination and shared play.
The playground is used daily by the clinic’s own kindergarten and is also open to other children staying at the clinic. Playgrounds for hospitals and rehabilitation facilities are becoming an increasingly important part of our work. In these special places, it means a great deal to us to bring joy to children and create moments when they can leave their worries behind and simply be children.
A heartfelt thank you to the team at Nachsorgeklinik am Straussee for their trust and the wonderful collaboration! We wish the children and their families many happy, carefree moments of play with their new jay playground.
