PROJEKTE

Playground orchestra

In memory of the great composer Johann Sebastian Bach, the playground on the street named after him has been redesigned in Monheim. SIK-Holz® consultant Martin Heumüller designed a small wooden orchestra in response to the city of Mohnheim’s call for tenders for the redesign.

At the centre is a combined play equipment with the look of a big contrabass for climbing over, crawling into it and sliding down. Climbing ropes in the form of score lines connect the contrabass with a piano keyboard for balancing. The combination offers ever new starting points for activity trails and is at the same time a retreat with little hiding places.

A small sand construction site in the form of two large drums offers creative and persistent play opportunities. For reasons of preserving a peaceful neighbourhood, the lack of a sounding board will unfortunately not allow for a musical drum experience. The drums are rather used as baking surfaces. Sand elevator, chute and sieve support playing with the element sand. Flutes and a clarinet also belong to the small playground orchestra. Two to four children or even adults can seesaw together on the clarinet. At the same time, the clarinet is also a place to sit and observe. On the swing between the flutes even very young children can independently swing back and forth

The concept had been agreed as part of the Playground Commission with representatives from politics, youth parliament and local residents. The sturdy green framework and a robust seating arrangement make the playground an attractive family meeting place in the neighbourhood.
